Portfolio

My portfolio represents a collection of published pen&ink artwork spanning the last 20+ years to my more recent ongoing natural history art gallery series of paintings, which have all been rendered within the last 15 months.

MY RECENT ARTWORK

The medium I am most fond of working in is acrylic paint with black ink. Although trained in watercolours, I find advantages to painting with acrylic paint while using watercolour techniques. The black ink is rendered overtop the acrylic surface, then reworked several times with more paint and ink. I will often blend and blur the ink, creating tonal values that give me a near photographic quality.  It is a personal art style I have developed over the years, starting in high school, and then influenced heavily from my 30+ years of work experience as an illustrator, and also from studying art history, and after receiving favourable reactions from my art teachers.  It has been a long progression, a personal journey, of experimentation of various techniques.

Many of the art styles I use are influence by my experience of working in the medium of print during my art school years and also working as a silkscreen artist.  Although I owe a lot to the countless hours I have spent experimenting with various art techniques and mediums-- if I think a technique may work, a known or a new technique, I will give it try it.  Some of my best artwork came from showing no fear in the face of what others have told me is too difficult, too time-consuming, or impossible to achieve.
