Book ArtWORKS
A number of my illustrations have been featured in various print products and publications over the years. The animal pieces are all creatures I discovered in the various forests/parks growing up in British Columbia, Canada.
The art method I employed with these art pieces was to paint the colour portion of the art piece first and then apply an ink layer over of the coloured art. I do this to mimic 19th Century colour etchings, which had the black ink layer printed as the last layer on colour prints. This comes from my love of old world ink prints, such as medieval woodcuts, and modern linocut artwork, all of which I was taught in art school where I specialized in printmaking. The benefit of this method is that the black ink remains pure and dark. If the paint were applied over the black layer, it may cover or diminish the black ink. It is an art style I developed that was inspired upon me while I took printmaking while attending a full time, 2-year Fine Arts Program.
