The Yellow Rose. This painting was inspired by a visit to Stanley Park, in Vancouver, in April 2020. I have always liked yellow roses and there is even an old song from the American Civil War called, The Yellow Rose of Texas. Being a student of history, this insignificance was never lost on me. Yellow roses always have a certain beauty to them that catches my eye. This colour always catches my eye and I find myself getting up close to examine its textures, shapes, and beauty. This yellow rose inspired me to paint it. Its contrasting intensely green petals against the beautifully creamy yellow depth of colour was impressive and inspiring.
