Wet Leaves has been a subject I have long wanted to paint, but making the time has always the problem. I find it intriguing and challenging to paint wet surfaces. I remember, as a 3-year old child, walking through the piles of wet leaves that covered our backyard lawn in South Burnaby. I was wearing a yellow rain jacket and black rubber boots that took longer to put on than I spent walking about. It took awhile to find colourful Fall leaves in my area as British Columbia is not like Ontario where colour abounds everywhere in the Fall season. I searched various locations in the rain before I chanced upon Memorial Peace Park in front of the Act Theatre/Art Gallery in Maple Ridge. It was here I discovered a number of ornamental maple trees which produce the colours of Fall leaves I had been seeking.
