Rich Merchants. This was one of several images I was commissioned to create for a book. The publisher set the time period to around the 14th Century so I researched it to get the costumes as correct as I could. It took a bit of work just to design this piece because the description I was given called for, "A group of rich merchants or noblemen mounted on their horses with their guard". Trying to get this group designed into an historically accurate looking piece, and rendering the details that make them appear wealthy took a bit of time and rework before I was satisfied with the art and design before I started.
