As an Painting instructor for LAC (Langley Arts Council), I was asked to participate in the mid-July Plein Air outdoor art challenge sponsored by OPUS Art Supplies (Langley). I couldn't compete in this event due to my association with the organizers but instead I was there as a representative of the LAC. I set up my easel, which I borrowed from the LAC, and I painted this scene using acrylics on a 16x20-inch canvas. I chose a remote part of Portage Park to set up a few hours ahead the official starting time where I could paint undisturbed. The location was undercover from the midday sun, which saw temperatures as high as 96F (35C). I spent 5 hours on my painting and then, around 6pm, I headed over to the main park to meet up with my girlfriend, to sign in at the LAC tent, and to talk with the participating artists of the outdoor art challenge. There were a number of very talented artists out there.
