Magic Tiles. This was part of a 4-piece commission. I had 4 illustrations to create in woodcut style with the stipulation that the final art appears dark and menacing to match the mood of the book. This image was fun to create but took a few attempts at printing before I was happy with the resulting line weights. Printing black ink often makes lines expand, causing them to become heavier than originally intended. This can lead to lines merging together forming unplanned dark areas. Although desired in this piece, it required a fine balance between heavy and light line weights to ensure they show properly.
