There are many lakes in my area, within a two-hour drive. I traveled a lot in 2020 collecting references for new paintings from various locations. I am always amazed at just how beautiful British Columbia is but I am equally amazed at just how beautiful it is within a two-hour car ride from where I live. You can be at an ocean beach or you can find yourself in the alpine viewing the coastal mountains with their white snow-capped peaks disappearing into the horizon. The possibilities of finding something wonderful to paint are endless and that can be achieved within a two-hour car ride. Rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, alpine meadows, expansive valleys with cliff-faced edges, forests, and much more, all with little evidence of human intrusion with the exception of the gravel road you are driving upon.
