Hicks Lake is located in Sasquatch Provincial Park, British Columbia. I explored the lake's shoreline over a 3-hour period and concluded that this is a very beautiful location. I came away with many potential artworks. My painting of Hicks Lake is an exploration of light, shadows, and the contrasting values on and beneath a surface of water. I wanted to give the water a feeling of movement and depth, but to allow the viewer to sense the texture of the rock-strewn lake bed. I also tried to capture the coolness of the water, which was present that day despite it being a late hot summer afternoon. This is one of two paintings I made of Hicks Lake. Painting Hicks Lake reminds me of my childhood, camping with my family at various lakes in British Columbia and Alberta.
