Hicks Lake is located in Sasquatch Provincial Park, British Columbia. I explored the lake's shoreline over a 3-hour period and concluded that this is very beautiful location. I came away with many potential artworks. My painting of Hicks Lake is an exploration of light, shadows, and the contrasting values on and under a water surface. I wanted to give the water a feeling of movement and depth, but to allow the viewer to sense the texture of the rock-strewn lake bed. I also wanted to capture the feel of the coolness of the water, which was present that day despite it being a late hot summer afternoon.
This is one of two paintings I rendered of Hicks Lake. Painting Hicks Lake reminded me of my childhood, camping with my family at the various lakes in British Columbia and Alberta.
