The roses in this painting were inspired by a visit to Stanley Park, in Vancouver, in April, 2020. My mother often visited this famous rose garden and would often take visiting relatives along. My mother grew roses in the front yard of our house, along the pathway to our front door. These were a gift from my father to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Her rose bushes lasted for 25 years until the last one, ironically, died the same year my father passed away. Of all the roses my mother grew, it was her red roses that impressed me the most with their intense red colour. They always reminded me of fire. Now, whenever I see red roses, I am reminded of my mother's rose garden.
