When I was three years old, over a 12-month period, my father built a small sailboat in the basement of our house. Once complete, he tested the boat on Deer Lake on a grey fall morning. I still remember my father giving each of us a turn in the new boat, rowing us out onto Deer Lake that overcast morning. His homemade boat was never completed as a sailboat but we still took with us on several holiday trips including a few times onto Burnaby Lake. These days, I often find myself walking along the path around Deer Lake. This is a nice park and lake to explore. To date, I have rendered no fewer than five paintings of various locations and scenes along Deer Lake's shoreline and will probably create more. On Halloween afternoon, I went canoeing on Deer Lake with my girlfriend. Normally, I just walk around the shoreline trail but being on the water offers a different perspective of Deer Lake.
