Burnaby Lake Trail

Picture
I first started exploring the trails around Burnaby Lake when I was a child. Many of the trails in this park today didn't exist then. I remember playing soccer on the fields at the West side of the lake as soon as the fields could be played upon. Before, this area of the lake was a swamp with dead trees and debris floating among the lake reeds. In 1972, the lake was dredged and all the resulting mud, mixed with a lot of sand, was dumped to form today's soccer fields at the west side of the lake. I played soccer on these new, wet fields as soon as they had grass.
I have always wanted to paint the landscape scenes found around Burnaby Lake because of the beauty to be found here but mostly because of my childhood memories of the park.
