NOTE: My painting, "Winter", won an Honourable Mention award at Federation Gallery's, 2025 Landscape Exhibition. In 2024, my painting, "Kanaka Creek No.2" won First Place in the 2024 Landscape Exhibition.
Winter painting depicts Cliff Park (Maple Ridge, BC) right after a light snowfall. Although uncommon to get snow in my area, when it does snow, I try to venture out a local park to get winter photos. Normally, Cliff Park sees a modest number of people during the day but while it was snowing there were suddenly large numbers of people walking about. I was able to get into the park as the snow had nearly stopped falling. The snow on the paths were still fairly pristine and untouched. The owl in my painting is a Barred Owl, which is a species found across Canada. Whenever I have come across owls in the wild, most have been Barred Owls. You often discover them in trees, right in front of you and then, as if by magic, they sense their discovery and fly away.
