Winter Owl painting depicts Cliff Park (Maple Ridge, BC) right after a light snowfall. Cliff Park sees a modest number of people during the day, but when snowing, suddenly you will see large numbers of people walking about with children in tow. I was able to get into the park as the snow had nearly stopped falling. The snow on many of the paths was still fairly pristine and untouched. The owl in my painting is a Barred Owl, which is a species found across Canada. Whenever I have come across owls in the wild, most have been Barred Owls. You often discover them in trees, right in front of you, and then, as if by magic, they sense discovery and fly away.
