NOTE: My painting, "Winter Owl", will be included in the 2026 Scenes from Canada Exhibition at the Federation Gallery (10 February -1 March, 2026).
Winter Owl painting depicts Cliff Park (Maple Ridge, BC) right after a light snowfall. Cliff Park sees a modest number of people during the day, but when it is snowing, suddenly you will see large numbers of people walking about with children in tow. I was able to get into the park just as the snow had nearly stopped falling. The snow on many of the paths was still fairly pristine and untouched. The owl in my painting is a Barred Owl, a species found across southern Canada. Whenever I have come across owls in the wild, most of these have been Barred Owls. You often see them in trees, right in front of you, sitting unnoticed for 10 to 15 minutes. And then, as if by magic, they sense their discovery and fly away.
