My Winter Hare painting depicts winter in British Columbia. The Snowshoe Hare is a common sight in many places in the province. During the warm Fall evenings, it isn't too uncommon to a hundred at a time along the back roads and fields but more usually, it is seen in groups of 3 to 5 individuals. Many animals feed on these hares including owls, foxes, coyotes, cougars, lynx, and fishers. The largest fisher I have ever seen had a dark brown-black body of at least 4-feet in length and a tail about 5-feet long and was chasing a snowshoe hare across a logging road. The hare didn't stand a chance.
