The Message Tree & Mounted Knight. This illustration was part of a 36 piece commission where I was only given 6 days to complete. I didn't get much sleep during the time. The illustration description I was given simply stated' "Message Tree". I had to ask for more information and was informed that message trees dotted the English countryside during the medieval period and were something akin to postal boxes. People hid messages in the tree's trunks and hollows. The recipient would be informed when the message would roughly arrive and would come by and check for its delivery. I added the mounted knight to the illustration to give it more interest.
