The Hayward Lake Trail is fairly well maintained with the exception of two areas hit by past mudslides. This has narrowed certain spots along the trail to a narrow pathway but it is still fairly easy, level walking for most of its traverse. Only along the south part of the trail will you find hills that may prove obstacles to some pedestrian traffic. This trail is not too popular but you will run into other hikers and bicyclists on occasion but that is probably good as there can be bears. I have only come across three bears in all the times I have walked along this trail over the last 24 years.
