I first walked along this trail when I was 14 years old. It hasn't changed that much over the years. The remnants of the old wooden train trestles remain more or less the same but the trail is wider, less overgrown from what I recall. The vegetation on the sides of the trail has been pushed back considerably.
This painting is part of a series of paintings I created of around Hayward Lake. This location is just 20 yards from the entrance to Hayward Lake's large off-leash dog beach. I was impressed with the dynamics of the design of this scene, I knew I had to paint it. I find a grove of trees, like in this painting, can make powerful subjects. I liked how the rear trees with their angle contrasted beautifully with the trees in the foreground trees. I found many interesting subjects to paint while I walked and observed the landscapes along this beautiful trail.
